Successful Completion of Burnley New College

Shepherd Construction achieved Practical Completion (PC) at Burnley New College on contract PC date of  3rd July 2009.
John Smith Principal of Burnley College said to Derek Urquhart Construction Manager and Mark Richardson Project Manager of Shepherd Construction, ‘You have exceeded our expectations and our expectations were very high.'

Mark Richardson SCL thanked Adana Construction for all the hard work and team effort  that Adana have given over the past 18 months  to help successfully complete the project.

This 25,600 m2 campus consists of a stepped 6 storey building, multi-use sports hall, all weather sports pitches, hard and soft landscaping.

The contract started in November 2007 with the site set up and Adana's works included constructing the proposed car park for site car parking.  Working alongside the piling contractor Adana excavated, cropped the piles, cast the pile caps and ground beams.  Due to the nature of the site Adana constructed a 6m high RC retaining wall on piles with Voltex tanking membrane.  As the contract proceeded Adana installed underground drainage and ducting.  Adana cast the escalator/ lift pits and the ground floor slabs.  During the Contract Adana were awarded the 23,000 m2 Structural topping package on Bison floor units.

The site is split into two with the river Calder flowing down the middle.  Adana reconstructed the river wall using the Tensar dry laid system with Geo grid which was also used between the main campus blocks. For access over the river Adana built a road bridge. Next to the all weather pitch Adana installed a Redi - Rock modular retaining wall.

Adana completed all the hard landscaping using La Linia paving and street furniture.

 Adana's Contract value was £6million.
