Our Projects: Shepherd Construction

Our Work

Shepherd Construction

Burnley New College 2007 - due to finish July 2009 : Our Contract Value £6,000,000

This 25,600 m2 campus consists of a stepped 6 storey building, multi-use sports hall, all weather sports pitches, hard and soft landscaping.

In November 2007 we started with the site set up and our works included constructing the proposed carpark for site car parking.  Working alongside the piling contractor we excavated, cropped the piles, cast the pile caps and ground beams.  Due to the nature of the site we constructed a 6m RC retaining wall on piles.  As the contract proceeded we installed underground drainage and ducting.  We cast the escalator/ lift pits and the ground floor slabs.  During the Contract we were awarded the the 23,000 m2 Structural topping package on Bison floor units.

The site is split into two with the river Calder flowing down the middle.  We reconstructed the river wall using the Tensar dry laid system with Geo grid which was also used between the main campus blocks. For access over the river we built a road bridge. Next to the All weather pitch we installed a Redi - Rock modular retaining wall.

The hard landscaping package is programmed to start in November with La Linia paving being the main theme.
