The £27.5m development commencing in 2013 and funded by the Welsh Government and the European Regional Development Fund, provides a range of facilities; including a theatre, studio theatre, cinema, restaurant, bars, a students’ union, and teaching and learning spaces equipped with the latest technology.
Adana Construction’s scope of works included the groundworks and substructure package, construction of a 31m-high lift shaft using climbing shutters, a 160m-long reinforced concrete retaining wall up to 7m high formed against an existing rock face, and the construction of seven levels of reinforced concrete frame. The contract required a workforce of approximately 60 operatives and supervisory staff. In total, the scheme incorporated more than 700 tonnes of reinforcement and approximately 6,000m³ of concrete.
